How to Care for your Hammock

Always handle your hammock by the end loops to avoid tangling. When repacking or storing, keep the loops separate from the "arms" and fold next to the "body" of the hammock.

String up your hammock between any 2 solid points (including fence posts, trees, garage, house, 4" x 4" x 8' post, etc. using heavy duty screw hooks and / or high test marine nylon rope (for larger distances). A gentle curve with the center about 2'-0" - 2'-6" above the ground is ideal. For indoor applications, be sure the hooks are inserted directly into the wall or ceiling studs.

Avoid wearing footwear and beware of buttons, zippers, buckles and any sharp protruding object, which may snag or break the individual strings. Coarse fabric like denim jeans is a little tough, so be careful not to shift around with all your weight in one place

  • To wash Hammock: Holding the two hanging loops in your hands, bring them together, folding the hammock in half. Tie the hammock together with string just below the hanging Loops. Tie the hammock together again, at the opposite end, and once more in the middle of the hammock. This should prevent Loops from becoming entangled with the string bed of the hammock, and the strings themselves from getting tangled as well. Put the tied up hammock into a pillowcase, and tie the pillowcase closed. Be sure to tie it securely, use the gentle cycle with mild detergent. Do not use bleach. After washing, carefully remove hammock from pillowcase and untie. Hang up hammock and spread out to dry. IMPORTANT: WHEN YOU ARE READY TO STORE HAMMOCKS FOR A LONG PERIOD OF TIME, MAKE SURE TO KEEP THEM IN A DRY PLACE INDOORS TO AVOID ANY DAMAGE THAT THE HUMIDITY MAY CAUSE.
  • Weather: Hammocks last longer if not left out exposed to the elements. It is best to store your hammock indoors when is not in use. Always hold hammock by loop ends to avoid tangles.

To repair: should a string break on an open wave hammock, it will not run, however, you must tie the two broken ends together to avoid the development of a hole.

How to use your Hammock

  1. Get into a hammock: Sit with your back to the hammock, as if you are about to sit on a chair. Reach behind you and spread out the hammock before sitting. This ensures that you make full use of the space and your weight is distributed evenly. Never climb in feet first.
  2. Get out of a Hammock: Swing your legs over the side and sit up. Then standing holds the edges of the hammock and push yourself up and off.
  3. Finding an Angle: The most comfortable way is at an angle. This allows you to lie flat with better distribution of your weight, lessening tension, and supporting your back for complete comfort. There are many positions that you can experiment until you find your favorite. Some positions are shown on the picture:

Getting the Hang of it

Inside your house; hang the hammock from the wall studs. Find center of stud or beam and insert the Screw Eye (included) using a power drill. (You can find the center of the stud using a wood detector) You can get it at your local hardware store. Some people are worried about the holes in the wall, but the holes that you would make are less than the size of a dime, and they are very easy to cover using white filling paste. It's just like hanging a picture frame, so do not worry and enjoy the hammock inside your house.

The distance from the floor to the point where you should insert the eye-screw should be about 8ft; and the distance from both ends of the hammock should be about 14-16ft. Look at the pictures to see how the hammock should hang with an angle. (Pictures 2 and 3) You can use the rope to compensate the distance. To make it easier to hang and store the hammock, you can also use the optional "S" shape hooks, to have between the hammock and the Screw eye. The best size to get is .273 x 2 ¾. When you use the "S" Hooks, is easier to hang and put away the hammock without having to untie the Ropes every time. To put away the hammock, so that is not hanging all the time, you can fold it just like you fold the water hose around your arm, when you are getting close to the end of the hammock, go around the loop and insert the end in the middle to hang it from the wall. (Look at picture 1)

Outside your house; you can use a strong fence post, and plant your own post across from it. The ideal hanging distance is 14-16ft apart from point to point and about 6-8 ft tall. You may also use any available trees or one tree and one post. If using the hammock outside, you will not need the hardware, just tie a long rope around the trees or poles. You can always get a longer Rope if need to compensate the distance if need it.
